Hotel Union Geiranger is looking for an experienced, passionate, and service-oriented Bar Manager to lead our bar operation during the 2026 season and forward.

Our classic hotel bar and lounge welcome guests from all over the world. We offer handcrafted cocktails, carefully selected wines, local craft beers, premium spirits, and light meals in an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere.

This is a hands-on leadership position where you will work both behind the bar and together with your team on the floor. We are looking for someone who enjoys creating exceptional guest experiences while building a strong team and continuously developing the bar concept.

 

Your Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, train and develop bartenders and bar staff.
  • Create work schedules and manage staffing levels.
  • Coach employees and conduct performance reviews.
  • Build a motivated team with high service standards.
  • Develop new cocktail recipes and continuously improve the beverage offering.
 

Daily Operations

  • Manage the daily opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure smooth daily operation of the bar and lounge.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure all bar equipment is properly maintained.
  • Work closely with the restaurant, kitchen and hotel management.
 

Guest Experience

  • Deliver outstanding hospitality and personal service.
  • Create memorable guest experiences.
  • Handle guest feedback and resolve issues professionally.
  • Build customer loyalty and encourage repeat visits.
 

Inventory & Purchasing

  • Monitor stock levels of beverages and supplies.
  • Order beverages, bar equipment and consumables.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts.
  • Reduce waste, over-pouring and stock losses.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records.
 

Financial Responsibility

  • Work within budgets and cost targets.
  • Monitor sales, labour costs and gross profit.
  • Analyse sales performance and identify opportunities to increase revenue.
  • Handle cash routines, reconciliations and reporting.
 

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with Norwegian alcohol legislation.
  • Maintain responsible alcohol service standards.
  • Ensure health, hygiene and workplace safety procedures are followed.
  • Prepare documentation for inspections when required.
 

Marketing & Product Development

  • Develop seasonal cocktail menus.
  • Participate in pricing strategies.
  • Plan promotions and special events.
  • Follow beverage trends and guest preferences.
  • Support marketing initiatives and social media when required.
 

Qualifications

We believe you have:

  • Previous leadership experience from a hotel bar, restaurant or similar operation.
  • Strong knowledge of cocktails, wine, beer and spirits.
  • A genuine passion for hospitality.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Financial understanding and experience with cost control.
  • Experience with inventory management.
  • The ability to lead by example.
  • Fluent English. Scandinavian language skills are considered an advantage.

About Hotel Union Geiranger

A short story about a long history

Hotel Union Geiranger was originally built in 1891 in traditional Norwegian dragon style with inspiration from Swiss architecture.

Julie and Karl Mjelva purchased the hotel in 1899, and the entrepreneurial family also established a power station, a car factory and a stove factory in Geiranger.

Over more than 130 years, the hotel has been continuously expanded and modernised while preserving its unique history and atmosphere. Today, the hotel is proudly operated by Monja and Sindre Mjelva, the fourth generation of the family.
