About the position
Applications are invited for a 3 year position in a Research Fellowship as PhD candidate in molecular immunology to be based at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo, Norway. The research fellow must take part in the Faculty of Medicine's approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
More about the position
The fellowship period is 3 years and devoted to carrying out a project on the topic: “Modulation of adaptive immunity: Molecular drivers of T cell exhaustion”.
The work will consist of experiments to explore how cytosolic adapter molecules, particularly the adapter molecule SH2D2A, regulate resting as well as activated and experienced T cells, and how this relates to T cell exhaustion. The candidate will explore how cytosolic adapters modulate the phosphoproteome of T cells, using high end mass spectrometry approaches, as well as immunological and genetic techniques.
The research fellow must take part in the faculty’s approved PhD program and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. Qualifications
The Faculty of Medicine has a strategic ambition to be among Europe’s leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this and will be expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in experimental life sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, medicine) or similar subjects
- Relevant, hands-on experience with mass spectrometry techniques, as well as immunological research.
Desired qualifications
- Competence in immunologically relevant techniques such as flow cytometry, isolation of T-cells, assays for analysing T cell activation, immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting.
- Experience with gene technology methods such as PCR, DNA isolation, gene cloning, sequence analysis, mutagenesis.
- Experience with proteomics techniques such as mass spectrometry, production of recombinant proteins.
- Experience with work with experimental animals (mice), including FELASA C approval.
Language requirments
Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

Grade requirements
The norm is as follows:
- The average grade point for courses included in the Bachelor’s degree must be C or better in the Norwegian educational system
- The average grade point for courses included in the Master’s degree must be B or better in the Norwegian educational system
- The Master’s thesis must have the grade B or better in the Norwegian educational system
All candidates will have to undergo a check versus national export, sanctions and security regulations. Candidates may be excluded based on these checks. Primary checkpoints are the Export Control regulation, the Sanctions regulation, and the national security regulation.
